In the second quarter, Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns Truth Social, reported a significant financial loss of $238 million. This comes as the company has refocused its efforts on social media, stepping back from its previous ventures into cryptocurrency and other areas. Despite the loss, the company did see an increase in revenue, generating $1.7 million, more than doubling its earnings from the same period last year.
Kevin McGurn, the new CEO, announced a strategic shift to realign resources towards strengthening its primary social media platform. Concurrently, the company is continuing to pursue selective projects, including a noteworthy planned merger with TAE Technologies, a company involved in nuclear fusion. This move signals a commitment to its core business while exploring opportunities for growth and innovation.
In a bid to diversify its offerings, Trump Media has introduced Truth API, a subscription service that offers financial firms early access to posts from former President Trump and other key figures on Truth Social. The service is priced between $60,000 and $100,000 monthly and has already garnered interest, securing 10 clients, mainly from high-frequency trading firms.
Financially, Trump Media remains in a stable position, holding over $400 million in cash and short-term investments by the end of the quarter. Additionally, the company possesses approximately $1.2 billion in bitcoin and related assets. However, it also carries about $1 billion in debt through convertible notes, which are set to mature in 2028, reflecting a complex financial landscape that the company will navigate in the coming years.
