In a bid to bolster Vietnam’s trade and economic trajectory, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng has urged enhanced collaboration with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). During his meetings in Switzerland, Thắng emphasized the importance of international support to further Vietnam’s trade initiatives, investment opportunities, and sustainable economic growth.
Thắng reiterated Vietnam’s dedication to maintaining a rules-based global trading framework and called on the WTO to initiate comprehensive reforms. He stressed the need to restore the organization’s dispute settlement mechanism and encouraged an expansion of its agenda to include critical emerging sectors such as digital trade, artificial intelligence, climate change adaptation, and the fortification of supply chain resilience.
Highlighting Vietnam’s ambitious target of achieving high-income status by 2045, Thắng also appealed to the WEF to intensify its partnership with Vietnam. He suggested that fostering investment, driving innovation, encouraging public-private partnerships, and developing international financial centers could be pivotal areas for deepened cooperation.
Representatives from both the WTO and WEF responded positively, acknowledging Vietnam’s ongoing economic reforms. They pledged continued collaboration to support Vietnam’s trade and investment goals, alongside initiatives aimed at building capacity and ensuring a resilient economic framework.
