China has experienced significant growth in its foreign trade sector during the first eight months of this year, with the total value of imports and exports reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, which is approximately $5.18 trillion. This marks a substantial 17.6% increase when compared to the same period last year. The data indicates a robust expansion in trade activities, underscoring China’s dynamic participation in global commerce.
The country’s exports for this period amounted to 20.17 trillion yuan, reflecting a 14.6% rise. Meanwhile, imports surged by 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. This trend highlights a particularly strong performance on the import front, showcasing China’s growing demand for foreign goods and materials.
In August alone, trade growth accelerated further, with the total value of imports and exports in goods climbing 19.8% year-on-year to reach 4.65 trillion yuan. Export activities increased by 18.6%, while imports saw an even higher growth rate of 21.7%. These figures indicate a continued upward trajectory in trade, with both imports and exports registering significant gains.
Notably, both exports and imports have maintained double-digit growth on a year-on-year basis for four consecutive months. Importantly, the growth rate of imports has consistently outpaced that of exports for the past six months. This pattern suggests a shift in trade dynamics, with rising domestic demand driving the increased import activity.
