Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million, to establish a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This facility marks the company’s largest warehouse in the country and is set to supply around 70 Lidl stores. Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics center is a major development in Lidl’s infrastructure, contributing significantly to its supply chain capabilities in Hungary.
The establishment of the logistics center has generated over 400 new jobs, and Lidl plans to expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees in the near future. The facility’s advanced features include 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, which enhance its operational efficiency. In line with Lidl’s commitment to sustainability, the center incorporates energy-efficient systems, such as a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar panel installation and a heating system that utilizes waste heat from refrigeration processes for underfloor heating.
Adding to its environmentally conscious design, the site includes a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area. This focus on sustainability is a key part of the facility’s design, aligning with Lidl’s broader environmental goals. The logistics center is poised to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily, reinforcing Lidl’s supply network across Hungary. This operational capacity is expected to bolster the retailer’s nationwide distribution efficiency.
Currently operating 220 stores nationwide, Lidl Hungary sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, underscoring its role in supporting the domestic economy. The new logistics center is anticipated to play a crucial role in Lidl’s ongoing expansion efforts and strengthen its market presence within Hungary. By enhancing its logistical infrastructure, Lidl aims to improve service delivery and meet the growing demands of its customer base.
